What witnesses reported across Barbados
The contemporary CANA dispatch describes an event that unfolded under a moonlit sky on the evening of 1 September 1987. What explanations fit the available evidence?
One reason the case continues to attract attention is that none of the publicly documented explanations fully accounts for every reported feature.
Several possibilities have been suggested over the years.
Meteor activity. Bright meteors can produce glowing trails visible across wide regions. However, witnesses generally described sustained horizontal movement lasting several minutes rather than brief high-speed streaks, making an ordinary meteor shower an imperfect match.
Space debris or satellite re-entry. Fragmenting spacecraft can generate multiple glowing objects travelling together over long distances.
