The twelve-light formation

Unlike the West Riffa case, the 2014 incident revolves around imagery rather than testimony. A photograph—and references to accompanying footage—showed twelve bright lights apparently travelling in formation over Bahrain on New Year’s Eve.

The availability of images initially made the event appear stronger than a simple eyewitness report. Yet the opposite problem soon emerged: investigators lacked reliable information about the circumstances under which the images had been taken.
