Why high-altitude plumes form spirals

How Armenian authorities responded

The incident generated enough concern that Armenia’s emergency management system treated it as a genuine public event requiring verification.

According to officials from the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ Rescue Service, the national crisis management centre received numerous reports as the phenomenon unfolded. Officials photographed and recorded the object while contacting multiple state institutions, including the Ministry of Defence, the National Security Service and the Metsamor nuclear power plant, to determine whether any emergency had occurred.
