The surviving accounts describe two couples travelling in a small boat with an outboard motor when they noticed an object that they initially believed might be an aircraft in difficulty. According to later catalogues that preserve the reported details, the witnesses approached the object and claimed it was hovering roughly 20 feet above the sea and appeared to rotate.
