These explanations do not diminish witness credibility. Human perception performs remarkably well under normal conditions but becomes less reliable when judging distant lights against a featureless night sky. Geological conductivity and the “natural battery”
Another proposal focuses on the valley’s unusual geology. Hessdalen contains conductive mineral deposits, including sulphides, while geophysical surveys have identified conductive zones associated with local rock formations.
