That year witnessed thousands of reports across Europe, North America and North Africa, prompting intelligence agencies to monitor unusual aerial observations for any possible military significance.

Morocco occupied an unusual position in this environment. Although still under French administration until 1956, it contained important military airfields, civilian aviation routes and observation points that attracted attention from both Western intelligence services and the United States Air Force.   • brilliant white or metallic-looking objects;
  • fast-moving lights leaving luminous trails;

Marrakech and the July-September 1952 reports

Among the best-known Cold War documents are intelligence summaries describing sightings around Marrakech during July and September 1952.

One report, derived from the French-language newspaper L’Echo du Maroc, describes numerous witnesses observing a large luminous disc moving horizontally before a flash of light occurred and a second, smaller object appeared heading south-west. Rabat and official intelligence circulation

Rabat appears repeatedly because it served as an administrative centre where reports entered official channels.

Declassified CIA documents include intelligence digests compiled from Moroccan and French colonial newspapers, allowing reports from Rabat to circulate among American analysts studying the wider UFO wave. Nouasseur, home to a major air base near Casablanca during the early Cold War, appears in surviving Project Blue Book documentation because of its military aviation importance.

Its inclusion is significant for historical reasons. American investigators paid particular attention to reports originating near military facilities because unidentified aerial observations could theoretically relate to foreign aircraft, atmospheric phenomena affecting operations or reporting errors involving conventional aviation. They demonstrate that:
